The DocDel List was established in 1995 as an industry-specific list for the discussion of issues regarding this growing and dynamic subject. Topics range from sharing document delivery resources and suppliers to discussions about new technologies and future trends in the field. Copyright concerns, opinions about changing business environments, and general help for the novice are also covered. The list continues to be private. Member names and email addresses are confidential and will not be released.
What makes this list so special is the mix of subscribers. Our membership is international with representation from the academic, government, business, and non-profit sectors. You can help make this list better by bringing your unique views, and colleagues, into the discussion. Please feel free to share the list with those you know who are interested in document delivery issues and invite them to join.
This is an unmoderated list so it is important to understand the difference between the DocDel List address and the administrative address.
To post a message to all subscribers use:
DocDel@docdel.com
To send an administrative command, i.e. "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" use:
Commands@docdel.com
The following are the current rules and netiquette for the DocDel List. We want to promote free and open discussion on the list but need to set a few ground rules early on in the best interest of the group.
List Rules (violating any of these four rules may result in removal from the list):
1) Spamming or otherwise harassing other list subscribers.
2) Messages that contain abusive or offensive language.
3) Messages with blatant advertisements. (Informational messages and press releases are welcome.)
4) Messages that slander another person or business. (Criticize carefully.)
List Netiquette (six ways to be courteous to other subscribers):
1) Avoid posting messages in HTML.
2) When reposting a message, try to edit the original message down to the keypoints.
3) Understand that some members might not want their messages quoted outside the list.
4) Try to avoid attaching files to messages, posting "virus warnings", or other "public service announcements".
5) Keep in mind that specific discussions about pricing can be viewed as price fixing.
6) Help us avoid bounced messages. Please unsubscribe to leave the list. Do not leave it to the host to unsubscribe you.
7) If you ever unsubscribe, send the list host an email explaining why, so action can be taken to address any list issues to avoid others leaving for the same reason.
8) Understand the separate list addresses:
To post a message that everyone will see>>DocDel@docdel.com
To post an administrative message>>Commands@docdel.com
To post a message to the list host>>Frank@docdel.com
Hopefully, with these rules and guidelines in place, we can make the list run more smoothly and avoid some problems in the future. Please continue to email your ideas for increasing the activity, subscriber base, and content of the DocDel List.
